Corinne Smith

Independent Journalist / Audio producer

I'm a journalist and audio producer, focused on investigative research, data reporting and multimedia storytelling based in Anchorage, Alaska.

I'm originally from Oakland CA, and first cut my teeth in local news reporting and producing at KPFA Pacifica Radio. Most recently, I completed a master’s of specialized journalism at USC Annenberg School for Communication and Journalism in Los Angeles. Since 2020, I've served as a local radio news reporter in various communities across Alaska - in Petersburg and Haines in Southeast, Homer and the Kenai Peninsula, and in Dillingham covering the Bristol Bay fishing season and the largest wild salmon fishery in the world. I'm particularly interested in rural economies, politics, labor, health, criminal and social justice.

My work has been featured in NPR Morning Edition, National Native News, Alaska Public Media, Alaska News Nightly, KDLG, Bristol Bay Times, KHNS, KTOO, KFSK, KPFA, KALW, and NSPR North State Public Radio.

Coming from an international policy background, I’m interested in international economics and politics, immigration and trans-border issues, and have participated in research into conflict resolution in the Philippines, food security in Peru, and transnational solidarity delegations in Honduras and Cuba.
